More specifically, it could have been amazing if other companies had joined in. As I recall, alot of them apparantly just laughed at the offer..... because, you know, they can make SO much money from all of their ancient, super-obscure titles on their own.
......though, the fact of Game Room's announcement and promises BEFORE setting up these links to various publishers was pretty freaking stupid. One thing you do not do, is you do not promise people 1000 games in 3 years if you HAVENT SET UP ANY OF THEM AT ALL.
I really, really liked Game Room. I'm the type of player that likes alot of older games..... and they dont have to be the "main" ones for me to like them. I know alot of people say older games like those on the 2600 tend not to age well, but I've always disagreed. I can find enjoyment in quite alot of them. Some of my favorites are really obscure games, actually.
And having all these arcade titles on there, AND 2600 stuff (me being a big fan of that thing), AND Intellivision, which I'd never previously played any of, was pretty freaking awesome. And scoreboards and replay saving and everything! I bought the vast majority of the games that were available.
.....and then it all collapsed. And that, for me, was the last bloody straw. It wasnt just the straw that broke the camel's back, it was the straw that went ultra-nuclear and caused camels to go extinct. I'd been getting quite fed up with the damn 360 and it's selection and it's screwball issues in general, and when Game Room collapsed, well..... GR was basically the final thing I had ANY interest in, as the 360 went, aside from my imports. I gave the damn thing away almost immediately afterwards, realizing that I probably was never going to regain an interest in it, considering various recent trends. Kept the JP unit, of course. Havent regretted for a moment the giving away of the NA unit. Bloody thing was useless.
And really, it was such a freaking shame that this had to go the way it did, because there'll probably never be another one like it. I think this is the point where I realized that I might not buy the next gen of consoles after all, because all the CURRENT ones ever do is censored me off in various ways, and put out really damn stupid crap that I'll never want to touch. Right around here is also where I leapt into PC gaming, and indie games in particular.
Of course I still HAVE GR on the JP unit, but I dont touch it much these days.
