Have bought several games now.. just Konami ones..

I got to 23rd overall place on Missing In Action :D - Love that game!

Jackal is also very addictive, and Im also enjoying Trick Trap which is a nice fantasy themed shooter.

I also got Shaolin's Road but I suck at it..

Tempted to get Devastators and maybe Twinbee.. Ill give them a whirl on MAME shortly and see if they are worth getting.

Its a sad shame about Game Room.. sunset riders and other Konami arcade titles would make it worth the price of admission alone.. What they were thinking with 2600 and Intellivision games I will never understand.. Venetian Blinds anyone? That's a serious insult to everyone.. did they even check this before giving it the green light, or was it a vindictive F**k You to the gamers who they maybe blamed for the service not taking off?

I did wonder that myself.

Sorry if anybody's sent me any challenges BTW, I will go on Xbox Live a bit later and check....

More specifically, it could have been amazing if other companies had joined in. As I recall, alot of them apparantly just laughed at the offer..... because, you know, they can make SO much money from all of their ancient, super-obscure titles on their own.

......though, the fact of Game Room's announcement and promises BEFORE setting up these links to various publishers was pretty freaking stupid. One thing you do not do, is you do not promise people 1000 games in 3 years if you HAVENT SET UP ANY OF THEM AT ALL.

I really, really liked Game Room. I'm the type of player that likes alot of older games..... and they dont have to be the "main" ones for me to like them. I know alot of people say older games like those on the 2600 tend not to age well, but I've always disagreed. I can find enjoyment in quite alot of them. Some of my favorites are really obscure games, actually.

And having all these arcade titles on there, AND 2600 stuff (me being a big fan of that thing), AND Intellivision, which I'd never previously played any of, was pretty freaking awesome. And scoreboards and replay saving and everything! I bought the vast majority of the games that were available.

.....and then it all collapsed. And that, for me, was the last bloody straw. It wasnt just the straw that broke the camel's back, it was the straw that went ultra-nuclear and caused camels to go extinct. I'd been getting quite fed up with the damn 360 and it's selection and it's screwball issues in general, and when Game Room collapsed, well..... GR was basically the final thing I had ANY interest in, as the 360 went, aside from my imports. I gave the damn thing away almost immediately afterwards, realizing that I probably was never going to regain an interest in it, considering various recent trends. Kept the JP unit, of course. Havent regretted for a moment the giving away of the NA unit. Bloody thing was useless.

And really, it was such a freaking shame that this had to go the way it did, because there'll probably never be another one like it. I think this is the point where I realized that I might not buy the next gen of consoles after all, because all the CURRENT ones ever do is censored me off in various ways, and put out really damn stupid crap that I'll never want to touch. Right around here is also where I leapt into PC gaming, and indie games in particular.

Of course I still HAVE GR on the JP unit, but I dont touch it much these days.

Gotta agree 100% with this, despite the amount of proper arcade titles on there (well from Konami and Atari) my most played games in Game Room are Millipede on the 2600 and Astrosmash on the Intelivision, played both of em to death, and had a lot of fun with Spooky on here chasing each others high scores, yeah both games look like complete crap these days but play really, really well.

[quote="ToxieDogg"]...some games were emulated poorly (think Iron Horse has no music?)quote]

Did it? I've never played the original. Always thought that the lack of music in Game Room was odd.

I think the first time you try the demo its free, but they're time limited and then you have to pay after that if you want another go. Are the ones trying to charge you 40 points ones that you've tried on there before?

No there not. I wanted to try MIA but every time i tried the demo it wanted 40 points. I bit the bullet in the end and bought the game, luckily its pretty damn good.

Wasn't there talk of Retro Gamer doing an article about the mess that Game Room ended up being or has that been sheleved?

The first time you go to play any Game Room game, after downloading a pack, you get 5 minutes free time to play. After that it's 40gps or full price. I noticed that I still have a few demos available for games I never bothered to try out. You must have sampled MIA previously.

Now you say about the article, I also remember that there was word of a piece being written about Game Room turning into a disaster zone. Maybe it didn't make the grade. It could've been interesting to read after the positive coverage Game Room rightly got.

Has a good Western style theme playing in the background on the original arcade version, which also plays fine when running it through MAME too. There's no reason for the lack of music on the Game Room port other than they've messed up with it.

As for an article on Game Room failing...yeah, I'd have been interested to see that myself. Think we pretty much discussed it to death on the forum though at the time.

Games I now have:

Shaolins Road
Trick Trap
M.I.A.
Jackal
Devestators

Might pick up Tutankham but Game Room wont let me configure the buttons, and using an Hori Arcade stick makes it hard to play. (why the f()ck didn't they put an option to configure the controls?)

I've already contacted people who worked on Game Room, but they're still not allowed to talk about it yet.

Is there any.. i mean ANY, chance at all that game room will get sorted out? Maybe a new developer brought in to sort it out and add more games? Or is is 100% dead in the water?

I paid the 240ms points for MIA last night. I'm glad you mentioned it, chip. I really like Green Beret and I had no idea MIA was a sort of sequel. It's a great game, but, having tried MIA on Mame too, this is the first time I've noticed a difference between the versions on Game Room and Mame. Not that it spoils my enjoyment either way.

I've sent out a few challenges on MIA, MegaZone, Super Cobra and maybe another couple.

And, Shinobi, that's a great score on Super Cobra!! I'm terrible at that game.. .. .. mainly because it's almost flippn' impossible!!

Hey, glad you discovered M.I.A. I also loved Green Beret / Rush N Attack so loved this too.. I remembered playing it in arcades as a kid, then found it via MAME a few years ago. It's definitely better than the prequel I think.

I had a go at your challenge for M.I.A and got a pretty good 174,000 odd points, so looking forward to seeing everyone else have a go! :)
