If its anything like the password card cartridges I have, you flick the switch on the cart, insert a proper PS1 disc (so it reads the copy protection code from it), then it'll go to a boot menu and stop the disc spinning so you can swap it for a backup or NTSC game. The boot menu will give options as to how to boot.

Not sure if all of those video cards do the same thing, looking at that link there's only some that mention cheat code functions, but its possible that they all have the disc swap ability.

well its a video cd function, and in order to play vcds, you have to do what you have mentioned, albeit, swap it out with a video cd after the disc has spun

I took part in my first boot sale today, but for the first time, I was selling instead of buying.

My stall was mainly gaming-related and I took down loads of stuff like my boxed Gamecube, box of SMS games, 2 PSXs, Pile of Dreamcast titles, a RROD 360 and about 25 duplicate Saturn games. Well, I sold everything in about and hour: everything, that is, except my Saturn and Dreamcast stuff. Apart from the GC and 360, all my games were £1 each. I'm beginning to think I'm the only Sega collector in Scotland

I thought I was being clever by taking all the stuff that I look for when I visit car boots, assuming that there would be other punters of the same 'persuasion'. Not so, apparently.

On a related topic: where are the boot sale games these days? Does everyone now keep them for eBay? Or just keep them? I hardly saw any PS2 titles today, never mind anything with Sega on it, or even anything 32-bit-related at all.

I remember when you were up to your knees in Atari, Amstrad and Nintendo machines at the smallest bootsales. This sale today was the annual massive event, local to us and was as enormous as ever.

Not much game wise today, best find was X Com Terror From The Deep on the PS1 for £3. Had to laugh there were two guys who got to the box of PS1 games before me and took a fair few out of there and bought them. As they were leaving one of them said to me you can have the censored left in there. Muppets :D Also missed out on a NES and a massive box of boxed games. The guy sold it for £25, i even told him he'd just cost himself a massive ammount of money.

Apart from that got another couple of Wrstling DVDs a huge pile of Games Workshop novels and a couple of Steelbooks.

Well it was my attendence to a car boot in 6 weeks due to the birth of my baby boy, and what a glorious day it was for booting. Shame there wasn't much amazing out there that hadn't already been gutted by the mountain of traders out there who pitching there and buying everything up before the buyers could go in.

Loads of bits went just as I got to the stalls including a copy of Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions which I've been after for a while for a quid and someone sold a massive pile of Xbox & PS2 games (around 50-60 games, mostly decent) plus a Xbox and PS2 for 28 pounds.

In the end I ended up picking up all of this stuff up:

A Japanese Boxed Mega Drive for 12 pounds
A Tomy Tetris Board Game for a quid
A Sonic The Hedgehod Scalextric style racing thingy unopened for a quid
An 18" Robocop figure for 5 pounds
5 Mega CD Games (Sherlock Holmes, Star Wars Chess, Echo The Dolphin, Soul Star & Prince of Persia) plus Vectorman for the Megadrive for a tenner
4 Dreamcast games (Sega Rally, Tee Off, Uefa Soccer & Virtua Tennis) for a quid each
Micro Machines for the PS2 for a quid
Army of Two: The 40th Day for X360 for a quid
House of the Dead Overkill for PS3 for 2 quid
Super Puzzle Fighter for the GBA for a quid
A big Quake 2 box set for the PC (4 disks) for 3 quid
Half Life 1 plus 3 expansion isks for 2 quid
Dark Forces: Jedi Knight 2 for the PC fo 50p

Not to bad a day, but nothing spectacular.

Great finds Freemonk! Definitely Japanese Megadrive yeh? (Not Asian PAL?) Asian PAL is good but Boxed Jap would be amazing!

I went to one boot today - it was chocka. Bought the large boxed set of Mad Dog McCree for the CDI for £3, some RPG books, a slice of Watermelon for a pound - was lovely.
Saw a boxed Atari ST520fm early on for £20. Went back when I was leaving at half 8 and asked for their best price. Got it for a tenner, which was what it was worth to me and what I was willing to pay :)

Have a CDI so will give Mad Dog a run through!

Freemonk, I've got a copy of Special Missions on PS1 if you want it? I've tried selling it a few times to no avail, so if you're wanting it just say the word and I'll pop it in the mail :)

I think it's a Japanese Megadrive. It has all Japanese writing all over it. I can't find my camera at the moment, but it looks like this one Image Is it a Japanese MD??

Also Maddog McCree on the CDi was great and for 3 quid a bargain. I had it back when my Dad bought it when the CDi came out, and I played Maddog McCree a lot. Corny as hell, but it was fun.

That would be awesome, let me know a price and we'll sort it out! :D

That Megadrive may be an Asian one. Great thing about those are that they play UK and I think USA games as well without the need for a convertor

The bootfair this weekend was massive but not that much quality. I could have got 3 DS Lite consoles from 3 separate sellers but all had broken screens. Got 7 megadrive games for £5 and 5 gameboy games for 50p. Wife did well as she got a Pokmon N64 console with ram expansion and perfect Dark for £2.

There was one stall where the guy was selling loads of PC games. Unfortunately they were all quite recent titles so probably unplayable as already registed on Steam. I got Just Cause 2 and The Witcher for £2 each and will see if they install or not this week otherwise will have to find a crack for them.

One thing Ive noticed is that there are a lot of people trying to sell off their PSP games but no-one is taking any interest in them at all anymore so its a good time to build a PSP collection if you are into that.

Look on the bottom of the Megadrive. What is the model number? You want it be HAA-2510
Wiki is pretty good for this also.

Thanks for the link. According to Wiki, it's the Asia version. Is that good thing? Will it play all NTSC and PAL carts then at 60hz like a modded MD (I've not tested it out yet).

Was it worth the thirteen pounds I paid or did I get ripped?

If it plays everything at 60hz then it was well worth the cash.

You'll have to check with some carts. Could be PAL or NTSC, 50Hz or 60Hz. Easy to mod though.
There's some great videos out there to aid you:

13quid for a nice example in a box is OK.

i have the same asian megadrive and it plays everything i've tried, if you look at the cart slot its just a big rectangle unlike the uk and us ones that are cut to the shape of the cart.

well worth the 13 quid in my opinion. I found mine in a charity shop for 3 quid, got it home and had a uk model in :( sold it and kept the box and bought an asian one instead :D

Will it switch between 50hz and 60hz depent on whether it's a PAL or NTSC game? Or does it display everything in glorious 60hz?

I like it because of the lovely colours on the machine. The black and purple arrangement with the blue button and white writing looks really cool.

I picked up 41 boxed and unboxed PS1 games today for £5.

Nowt much rarity within, but Abe's exodus and oddysee, Syphon filters 1 and 2, Die Hard Trilogy 2 plus all the Tomb Raiders made it worth a fiver just for those.

Like the guy who got run over by the steam train - I was chuffed to bits.
