The New Nintendo Gamer Magazine - it's retrotastic!

Postby Timothy Lumsden on Thu Jan 05, 2012 7:38 pm

N Gamer just morphed into Nintendo gamer - had a look though in Smiths today and it looks great. Very nice style and lots of retro coverage - maybe 30 percent or more? Cleverly they haven't dumped the retro into a section at the back, but have scattered it throughout the magazine.

Best mag (re)launch for a long while

Just shame I don't have much Nintendo in my life apart from some DS games - but if you like ninty - give it a go.

the only odd thing is they have re-launched without a permanent editor - curious.

I haven't bought a Nintendo mag since the days of Total! Will check this out next time I'm in WH Smiths for sure.

Are these retro bits a regular thing or just for this relaunch?

I think that probably depends on whether or not you like Nintendo systems and games or not.

The new Nintendo Gamer is great. It's far more of an all-round Ninty mag than before and less reliant on just news/previews/reviews with other stuff tacked around it. Good luck to them.

Never read this but the mix of new and retro Nintendo is interesting.

Picked this up today on a whim after reading about it in this thread.

Only had a quick flick through but it does look like a pretty decent read. Has a nice shiny cover and you get a lot of pages for your money. Retro wise it covers Secret of Mana, Body Harvest and Legend of the Mystical Ninja from what I've seen so far.

I also like the fact that the best games section covers all consoles from the NES to present day and has little mentions of the old magazines like Super Play.

It will be interesting to see how they go next issue as part of this one is a look at 2012 and the early stuff of the WiiU.

Really enjoying this re-launch issue. Plenty to read & no sign of those lovely tips books & Wii/DS stickers.

i guess the path might be that as new 3DS and Wii U stuff comes out they might scale back the retro - that it's plugging a gap as it were - but that would be a shame. No foil outer wrapper full of crud= proper magazine!

I'd be interested if they dropped the 3DS stuff, not bothered about handheld games they use to fill out half the mag. Its a pity all nintendo magazines assume you have every console.

I think that's mainly as 3DS is their only 'new' console - once Wii U arrives, I think it will dominate probably.
