Discuss the games of yesteryear while feeling all fuzzy inside.

I've just had a go of Nemesis and it isn't THAT bad. A very cut down version, but it is recognisable and I did have fun for a quick couple of games. May have been different if I had paid for it though.

Yeah, you'd have to factor in being 11, it being £7.95 and Sinclair Users lying, hyping review, I guess.

I just may have a slight grudge against the game thats grown all out of control, like that kid at the end of Akira...

But that collision detection- jesus!

Virtua Fighter 2 on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive.

Why did they even bother?

:?:

The C64 version yes, but the SNES? For an almost launch day title, it was a very good conversion, just a pity Capcom couldn't get the two player mode in there.

Adding to the bad C64 conversions not mentioned so far: Cisco Heat, Thunderjaws and Lazarian.

I almost mentioned FF for the Snes due to the missing player (Guy), the missing level (my fav. Rolento's level), the censoring (Roxy/Poison etc.) and the lack of 2 player co-op. Guess it wasn't to bad as a launch game but looking back at it now it just looks poor especially next to the amazing Final Fight CD which puts back everything that was missing.

One other conversion that wasn't really bad but really dissapointing to me was Marvel Super Heroes for the Saturn. Any other Capcom coin-op conversion at the time was superior on the Saturn including X-men so why they opted to simply port the Playstation version across I don't know. Long load times, slowdown on various attacks (proton cannon) or characters (Blackheart/Juggernaut).

Outrun (CPC) - The biggest letdown ever, without a shadow of a doubt.
Agreed, I was really looking forward to that one.
Also R-Type was a poor speccy port, slow and a lack of colour.

Don't get me wrong I was blown away by it on the Snes (I think it was the second game I bought on the Jap SNES after SMW) purely because I'd never seen such a close looking arcade conversion on the home system. But that novelty soon wore off, I've played the arcade version for years and I know it inside out so everything you lose from the arcade version in the transition devalues the experience for me. In short I think it's a cr@p conversion :)

Less of an experience yes, but if you can honestly say it's the same quality as most of the other crap conversions listed so far...! ;)

As for myself, I imported the Japanese version so Roxy and Poison are still in there...

Ha ok I'll concede it's not the worst arcade conversion I've seen It's only half bad!! :D

Now Growl on the Megedrive, there's a shoddy conversion of an average arcade game........

Kung Fu Master on the Spectrum was a terrible version of the coin-op.

Enduro Racer on C64 was terrible.
Last time I mention it alongside with Outrun on C64 I made one member mad without knowing it.

I loved the arcade one when I was a kid.

I'm still having therapy after the SNES version

I can beat that. I actually paid real money for the C64 version of Pit Fighter.

How do you think my brother feels? he paid for Pit-Fighter on the Amiga. I'm still laughing at him now, whilst pointing in his face going 'MUUUUUUG!'...

Space Harrier's not great but I've never felt it to be in the same bracket as true jobbies of the C64 such as Enduro Racer, Karnov, Cisco Heat and the like. It came out a few years before games like Cosmic Causeway showed how a fast and fluid a 3D game could be. In addition to that, I thought it was reasonably good fun, if only for about 1/2 an hour as it was pretty shallow. Not really good enough if you'd spent a tenner on it, but certainly 1/2 an hour's more fun than I had from Karnov.

If you had the ram cart the pal version had extra animation as I remember. I don't recall it being a port just that the uk version came out on PS1 first, pretty certain the japanese saturn version is superior. I've had both versions at different points and the saturn version was noticably better.

Back to the subject at hand, house of the dead on saturn was not a good conversion.
