Martial art movies

I start watching martial art movies around the late 80s. Actors/actresses I remembered are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh and Sammo Hung. They're all big name stars that dominated the Hong Kong movie industries, as well in Asia and the rest of the world.

The film that's likely to be remembered is Enter the Dragon. It's still regarded as a classic thanks to the impact that Bruce Lee brought and created in front of the cameras. Ataaaaah!!

ETD is the best martial arts film EVER!

I lost interset in Martial arts films until i saw Ong Bak with Tony Jaa. One of the best martial arts films i've ever seen.

I yet haven't seen Ong Bak, but I heard it's quite good.

Got quite a few martial arts films, lots of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung stuff, Ong Bak's worth tracking down to see some of the crazy stuff that Ja can do, but my favourite martial arts film at the moment is Kung Fu Hustle and I'd never been a big fan of wire work until I saw that.

Favourite Jackie Chan films are Project A, Police Story, Wheels on Meals, Dragons Forever, Armour of God and Drunken Master II.

Shaolin Soccer is another good movie to see for its comedy thanks to Stephen Chow. :lol:

I've never seen Drunken Master 2 due to it not getting some form of official release, Drunken Master's pretty ace though and I much prefer Chan's earlier movies rather than his latest american ones.

I watched Fearless in the cinema and I thought it was excellent. It's out on DVD soon and I would recommend anyone to watch it, great story and brilliant, well choreographed fight scenes.

I vaguely remember some Ninja films with Sho Kosugi in the mid/late 80's.

I also used to love the American Ninja films, however, watching one recently, they have dated very badly!

Fearless was actually Jet Li's last film that he made. It was rumoured that he's taking a break from martial art genres to concentrate on movies in America.

American Ninja was unlike any martial art movies from the Far East that it was too cheesy and perhaps silly.

No wonder why it became part of the popular culture thanks to the costumes and shurikens. :lol:

I just finished watching Ong-Bak. Very good indeed, but I can't help but think there were a lot incidents with people smacking their funny bones

I like martial arts films, but in execution they're very similar to porn movies - the script generally goes for a wander, and it's all about the "action"...

Ong Bak is superb but the best Martial arts movies are:

Iron Monkey
Once upon a time in china and
Once upon a time in china 2

Iron monkey is a little silly in places but the other two happen to have quite decent plots too.

The Warrior King with Tony Jaa's got some very good fight scenes in it. Just a shame they forgot about the story
