Anybody collect DS games?

Postby Mr Vengeance on Fri Apr 23, 2010 4:16 pm

As part of my "return to Nintendo" buzz I've been on this last few weeks, I've been looking at DS stuff, and picked up a couple of games for it again, and plan to pick up a few more shortly too. Daz himself seems to be fond of DS collecting, so no doubt that has contributed to this latest interest of mine, because he pointed out that decent DS games are becoming harder and harder to find "in the wild". I have noticed a big drop off in stock levels and range in many of the major games retailers in my area now that I've had my attention drawn to the situation.

So I was just wondering anyway then do any of you guys collect DS games? And if you do, what are the more collectable games for the system I should be keeping an eye out for?

You probably wouldn't like it.

Even so, I imagine it being a gem in a collection in the years to come..

In terms of rarity, Maestro Jump In Music is worth picking up if you see it.

Ketsui is ok but I LOL @ £50

As for collecting for the DS, I just have a philosophy of collecting games I like, rather than buying them for the sake of their rarity or value. That way you end up with a collection you enjoy and want to play, just my opinion on the matter and I understand everyone has different goals where this is concerned.

I do think the flash carts are invaluable though, in the sense you can try before you buy rather than take some lemmings word on a game and then juice a load of cash on something you don't like.

A lot of the early-gen stuff isn't easily found. When was the last time anyone saw Nintendo Touch Golf, Pac 'n Roll or SBK: Snowboard Kids out in Gamestation? 'Not recently' is probably your answer.

True.

You do see a lot of early Nintendo 1st party stuff like Mario 64 DS and Yoshi Touch & Go but they're always hideously over-priced at around the £20 mark and upwards :|

I quit using flash cards months ago because I got bored of them. Nothing like the real thing.
Anyway since I stopped using a flash all the games I have bought (excluding Chrono Trigger) have cost me £5 or less.

I bought HG after I left my Acekard 2i in the DSi LL I sold.

I'm glad, I'd rather focus on a great game than have tons of censored.

Ketsui DS is brilliant, but the price is ridiculous.

I wonder why people find piracy so much more accpetable on the DS than on other systems, dood?

I guess it's a better system for collecting the games you really like or maybe one particular genre. The DS outdoes even the Wii when it comes to the amount of my princess baby fashion designer rainbow puppy protector titles around. Then again, it's also a home to amazing Atlus titles that you would never find anywhere else...

We haven't set out to collect DS games, but we have quite a few. 166 currently. The majority of them are games either my wife or I specifically like. A handful are games my step daughters wanted to play, or freebies I got through work. If we were to cull the crap, I imagine we'd be left with around 130 - 140.

There are some brilliant games on the DS. It's easily my favorite platform of this generation.
