Citadel - the perfect game for me at the time, just as I was getting into the Fantasy genre. It felt as expansive then as Skyrim does now (I had a good imagination to fill in the blanks!) and I never got sick of completing it.

I'll take the safe bet of Elite too. One of my favourite games, and not only did the Model B version have all the features that weren't on the other computers, but it just felt like it fit the Micro so well.

Didn't use one much back in the day but I was jealous that Frak wasn't available on my Spectrum.

My favourite is probably The Krystal Connection, although it wasn't released until 2009. Such a fun platform game though, and it always attracts a lot of interest at the retro gaming events.

Another favourite is Chuckie Egg. Who couldn't love that game?!

I would love to say Elite and I probably will. The scale of it blew me away. I just had no idea how to play it and watched the 'grown ups' do it at the time!

i'll go for Fire Track because it's a lovely vertically scrolling shoot 'em up that pushes the hardware pretty hard as well.

Repton is a poor man's Boulder Dash... okay, got that out. Yes, I know it isn't meant to be a clone in any way, in the same way how Freeway isn't a Frogger clone. Just coincidence. But I never liked it.

Played a lot of Beeb games at school, obviously... none of them legally, obviously hah hah.

I'm going to go for a game that was converted to the C64 later by the same two guys responsible for the Beeb original (along with graphics from Dokk), and hence made it an excellent port to boot: Exile. Utterly fantastic exploration game, with realistic physics and a high challenge level.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

I do love a bit of Repton. You can play it online free HERE

My absolute favourite is Repton: the Lost Realms from Retro Software. I bought a copy at Replay on 5 1/4" disc and play it on my BBC Master quite a bit. It's a cracking puzzler, and it got loads of attention at GEEK2012.

To be different, Killer Gorilla! First BBC micro game I played at school and many fond memories. However there may be a "smidge" of rose-tinted nostalgia with my choice ;)

This really is utter hogwash.

As someone familiar with both, Boulder Dash is most definitely inferior to Repton. The Repton series is far more puzzle-based, with cleverer maze layouts.

Both Repton and Boulder Dash derive from Centuri's "The Pit", by the way.

Birdstrike (Firebird)
Blagger (Alligata)
Blast (Audiogenic)
Boffin (Addictive Games)
Bonecruncher (Superior)
By Fair Means Or Foul (Superior)
Chuckie Egg (A&F Software)
Citadel (Superior)
Clogger (Impact)
Codename Droid (Superior)
Danger Uxb (Micro Power)
Dunjunz (Bug-byte)
Exile (Superior)
Firetrack (Electric Dreams)
Frak (Aardvark)
Free Fall (Acornsoft)
Galaforce 2 (Superior)
Imogen (Micro Power)
Indoor Sports (Tynesoft)
Inertia (The 4th Dimension)
Karate Combat (Superior)
Perplexity (Superior)
Qwak (Superior)
Repton Thru Time (Superior)
Saigon (Tynesoft)
Stairway To Hell (Software Invasion)
Stryker's Run (Superior)
Survivors (Atlantis)
Tarzan Boy (Alligata)
The Hunt Search For Shauna (Robico)
Transistor's Revenge (Softspot)
Thrust (Superior)
Twin Kingdom Valley (Bug-byte)
Xor (Logotron)

Love all those BBC Micro games. My top five would probably include The Hunt: Search For Shauna, Imogen, By Fair Means Or Foul (128K version), Tarzan Boy, and Exile (Sideways RAM version).

Out of sheer genius and depth, I'd have to plump for EXILE, a brilliant arcade adventure from 1988.

One of my friends had a Beeb, wasn't jealous by most of the games I saw but the one which stood out was 'Sim', you had a jetpac and basically had to go through lots of different screens getting objects to get past doors etc, was great for its time

Planetoids . . . an amazing defender clone. I was doing a City and Guilds in Retail and Distribution @1988 as part of my Youth Training Scheme. I had to go to the YMCA in Norwich. We had a computer session once, where we could play games and had a contest. I won every catergory, mainly because I was the only male there . . and won a box of chocolates.

It was the peak of my game playing career.
