Worth a try

Never tried a USB turntable, but have heard people pick up really good record players from Charity shops.

Funnily enough I got some records not too long ago and asked on here for what to buy.

In the end I went for a USB turntable and it's actually pretty good quality, I've got it hooked up to some speakers and it sounds good enough, it's perfect for a short term solution instead of blowing a ton of money straight away and perfect if your lacking in space

First Lynyrd Skynyrd album in there I see - great stuff :) One of my faves.

I see there's a Southern Rock night on BBC4 this Friday from 9pm starting with a couple of documentaries, and then Skynyrd live on the Whistle Test '75 ... that'll be my evening sorted in the armchair!

BBC4 always has music related programming on Fridays.
The one just gone it was a night of Queen.

Ill probably get a turntable from a car boot

Nothing scratches my music nostalgia itch like sitting around with friends listening to vinyl records. For some reason we never do that with cds or itunes. There's a ritual to it I guess and the sleeves are almost always amazing (if not hilariously cheesy).

Yes and no.

They do what they say on the tin but ive got one and here are some of my issues with it:

1 - The sound quality can be very tinny - you may need to faff around with the software provided (if it lets you) or find some other software to improve the sound once you have made the mp3.

2 - The software may have a function to split the tracks but it just tries to find a gap in the sound - from my experience it ended up splitting a song in two and sometimes doesn't split at all.

3 - Its very time consuming.

4 - Unless its a song which is not available elsewhere (CD, download etc) its perhaps not a good idea - If you have a very high end set up with a really good turntable then vinyl will just sound poor.

But don't let me put you off

EDIT - ive no idea what they are like for just playing a record though - I only bought one to rip to mp3!

I love the fact Maiden and other bands are still releasing Vinyls, I don't know why they don't start offering free download codes for digital copies of the albums, that way you can have the nice big vinyls and cover art, with the convenience of a digital copy for your PC/MP3 player.

The Preny maids one comes with a kinda of transfer thing.
The 6 wife's of Henry the 8th seems to be the only one that got played.(scratches)
wonder if I can get lucky and get a few iron maiden ones.
Even if I have them on CD I want them to have the art work bigger to adorn my wall

You will have no trouble with the 80's Maiden albums, can be found in all good charity shops! The newer Maiden albums can be found online from Amazon and alike, the difficult ones are the 90's and early 2000 albums, needless to say nobody brought the ones with Blaze Bayley singing, and I was lucky enough to start collect in the early 2000's, so those expensive ones are in my possession, Brave New World and Rock in Rio are fairly expensive.

Overkill and At War With Satan... couple of classics right there, nothing like slipping on a nice bit of black vinyl
