Indeed, I just hate selling myself short.
Still, will keep an ear to the ground and see if anything better arises...

Will stick it out for a while til something better comes up but have made it clear to them I am not used to being a grunt and will be seeking advancement through the ranks at the earliest opportunity :)
Start on the 7th May :)

Congratulations mate, remember that they say that it's easier to find a job whilst in a job. Though who they are I have no idea.

Also good luck to shiftytigger.

Brilliant news tachi, im chuffed for you and good luck. Ive just wasted 5 months or so trying to get a job at JLR. First of all I had to complete a online assessment, then I have been to 2 separate interviews, within which I have taken literacy and numeracy exams, a practical exam and taken a drug test. All for the 'prize' of a monthly rolling contract. I was informed that I had been succesful and even guaranteed a place with them over the phone on 3 separate occasions. Only to eventually be told that in fact there are no longer any positions available after all. But if I am still interested, reply to their email within 24hrs or be taken off the list altogether. Nice, real nice.

How bloody helpful... Surely there is some sort of regulation against these practices?
Anyways, I thought they were hiring something like 1000 new staff as of last month?
Is there little else of worth where you are? I know (from your profile) that you've been out of work for a while but do you think thatmihht hold you back?
I had 4 months off on stress 3 years ago when my Nephew died and always get questioned about that...
Either way. I sincerely hope things change for you (and all the other guys n gals on here) soon as frankly things are bloody stupid right now.
Oh and ShiftyTigger, give us the lowdown on your situ mate and I think this thread could be our Unemployment thread lol

Im thinking about having a moan at them tbh, they shouldnt be allowed to string people along for such an amount of time. Manpower (who JLR use for recruitment) are a big firm though so they probably have all the i's dotted and the t's crossed. Doesnt make it right though. Also, if I kick up a fuss i'd bet my bottom dollar that somehow all my hard work would disappear from their records anyway.

Congrats on the new job! It's a bloody nightmare trying to get something decent out there right now....

I just got my dole money suspended as well, because of a mix up with Payslips when I was working at Game over Christmas....they sent me a really confusing letter, which I took to the jobcentre but nobody there could work it out either! After sitting on hold on a phone for an hour, and not a free phoneline either, I finally found out what it was all about....All of this the day before my Birthday... :x

Have hopefully got it sorted now, as I've sent off the last payslip I got and re-filled in some form they need when you finish, but it means I'll have no money until they make sure everything's all above board...

Really pisses me off though, as it seems when you actually try to do something right and actually want to work, the DWP does everything in it's power to muck everything up...whereas the drunk chap across the hall from me doesn't even need to go and sign on, 'coz he tells them he's in rehab when in reality he's sitting getting wrecked with his mates every night!

Anyhoo, sorry....didn't mean to rant! Enjoy the new job...try to keep hold of it, even if it sucks, because it's only going to get worse down the Jobcentre....
