It was called the VCS for about 4 years (surely most of it's useful life), then was renamed to the 2600. As far as I'm concerned, it was well past it's sell by date by then. I think I'd gone from that to the VIC-20, then to a C64 at that time.
I don't understand why most people call it a 2600, when surely most people bought it as a VCS.
