Don't hurry back

Believe me, I'm devastated at missing out on tonight´s debate on why the NES Super Mario Bros was actually a rip off of Atari's Pitfall

Enjoy yourselves, and don't forget the wine tonight. I certainly won't ha ha ha

That's Activision's Pitfall!

We did actually discuss some retro games last night - namely, some of the old 'Star Trek' games(ST game, Judgement Rites, Final Unity, Elite Force, Bridge Commander, Tobias Richter Amiga game, etc.).

Come on tonight. We can discuss old Star Trek computer games(if you like - I think we covered most of them last week  ). Hobgoblin's birthday(and all the computer related presents he received) and Sscott's upcoming birthday.

At the risk of sounding like Boggyb, I won't be able to get on tonight again this time due to business calling me at such an inconvenient time. I'm also preparing for sscotts birthday on May 11th, which is surely a bank holiday too. I wonder what James Bond film ITV will be showing that night?

Okay Spector.

PS - I looked at the TV guides and there isn't a Bond film scheduled for Sscott's upcoming birthday.

The devastating news is that the break from MY bollox is over and I'll be able to go on tomorrow night. Can't wait to discuss how Atari invented the Game And Watch!

That is good news Spector. We can also discuss Sscott's recent birthday and whether he took notice of the James Bond film. Plus, I am sure there will be some Nintendo bashing as well.

Actually the handheld LCD game format was released by several companies in 1980. Mattel, Bandai, and Nintendo. Though the move to use LCD watch display technology didn't start there, as you had Milton Bradley's Microvision in 1979 (also the first device with a d-pad), and the pioneering efforts of Atari.

You have two main waves of early handheld gaming technology. The first was using calculator display technology (LED/VFD), and was pioneered by Mattel (specifically Mike Katz, who came up with the idea to use calculator displays for games). The second was based off LCD watch and calculator technology and mentioned above.

Apologies for not turning up last night. I was far too busy enjoying reading the 'my favourite cute Pokémon' thread instead!
