How about that?

Hehe not that this will ever be the case but if it were to happen. What game would you choose Misery?
hmm..... If I were to choose.....
Well, if I were choosing from JUST games that are easily playable via Mame (or other easily-gotten emulators)..... the wacky Cave-Mame probably not counting since I think that emulator is nigh-impossible to find now (I'd have to directly give it, and the roms, to probably everyone, and even then there's usually angry screaming when trying to make it WORK RIGHT), well..... I can think of a few good candidates. I'll pick 10 here for the heck of it:
1. Raystorm, Well designed shmup, good scoring system with a mechanic that's not JUST for score, but also makes a very satisfying and useful attack.
2. Raiden Fighters series, any of these, these are all very, very good.... though Jet's scoring is a little wierd, but still darn good. And you get SO VERY MANY planes to pick from! I honestly cant think of another shmup beyond these that has that many.
3. Armed Formation, I found this one recently. Think R-Type but a bit more..... open, lacking R-Type's extremely cramped situations. Scoring is basic here, but this one's pretty fun.
4. Giga Wing, because it's obligatory that I suggest Giga Wing. Easy enough that anyone can dive in and really enjoy it, but getting a high score is not easy at all. This one got me into the genre.
5. Mars Matrix, I doubt I need to explain too much about this one.
6. Blazing Star, I think this is one of the ones we passed over for something less awesome. I'm still baffled as to why.
7. Omega Fighter, Fun one, simple but very workable scoring system. Get close and blast, I definitely like the idea.
8. Alpha Mission 2, I like this one because there's lots of different ways to approach the various areas of the game, based on which armors you have available to you at the time.
9. Under Defeat, I'm not quite sure what everyone thinks of this one, particularly with it's somewhat unusual controls, but I find it easy to see why this one is so well known.
10. Mega Zone, this one is what would happen if I chose on a day when I was in a bad mood. It's a good game. It's also absolutely rage-inducing.
There, a quick list of some I might have chosen.
You might notice a lack of anything Cave in there.... I like them, but I find their older (and thus easier to emulate) games tend to just be no good at all for scoring. Progear might be the exception..... maybe. Difficulty on that one maybe a bit too high though for something like this. Dangun Feveron might be fun, but I seem to recall it's got a few really nasty exploits. A lack of Psikyo also, cause while I like them as well, their games have bad rank issues, of the "pump more money into the machine because we want more money" sort.
There's others beyond these 10 of course that I might pick, like stuff from the R-Type series, and all sorts of others, but this group comes to mind as probably being the best choices.
....instead, here you're all playing Varth. VARTH. It's got a kersquillion levels (and difficulty curve problems) so Capcom could get you to pump coins in for continues THAT damn many times! Argh. Bloody Capcom, will their foul evil never end?!?
