New Ocean Software Site

Postby boyo on Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:13 pm

I have been working with some of the Ocean guys to build them a new community site and a library for all the assets for the games they have published. Mainly I have been working with Mark Jones, but Jim Bagley, Simon Butler and Bob Wakelin are also all in the loop and I hope to hear from Gary Bracey soon.

Check out the site - http://www.oceansoftwareltd.com

Register and take part in the Community and Forum sections. The Ocean guys will be in shortly.

Cheers m8.

Mark Jones has censored loads of stuff to put up. Also the community section is now up. Just a few CSS issues to sort.

I've just had a quick look around to. It's great to see those screenshots, I got pretty excited when I saw c64 in the menu  This could be an awesome resource, fella. Good work.

I do have a slight issue with the position of the main panel on my screen. It sits too far right and so some of the text/images are missing...

One other thing if I may, when I was browsing the adverts and loading screens I thought the little pale blue slider was a bit hard to see. That's probably just my eyes though as I haven't put my reading specs on!

I'll have a proper look later, but I'm also seeing a massive gap at the left side.

It might be that the date at the bottom is pushing the menu to the right.

Yeah, I'm getting a small scroll bar at the bottom too, it's a little too wide.

Yeah there's not that much there yet, it's early days, but i have got LOADS of stuff to add so will be building it up every couple of days so keep checking back for updates. I've been collating and scanning material for the last 12 months. Finally got somewhere to put it all. I plan to have EVERYTHING all in one place. Any additions or corrections then get in touch!

Should it have 'non-Ocean' stuff on there? Took me a minute to realise its a twitter feed at fault, but its pimping Retro Fusion stuff instead. [on further investigation, its a Retro Fusion feed, not an Ocean one).

I've got the same issue with the content hanging off to the right beyond today's date (which I'm not sure of the purpose of on the page).

I thought the 'X' on the menu might just roll up the menu so the content was in the right position, but it closes everything - that's not clear at all. Had the content been centred, I'm not sure I'd have clicked it at all so users could be missing out on the underlying screenshots. Again, the functionality to cycle through these is hidden behind a keypress instead of the usual mouse click to go forward (or forward/back arrows either side).

Looking forward to updates, since the Ocean FB page is one I watch regularly

Ok - good feedback. Will look out for a more appropriate template for this to see if it is more suitable for the content in hand or maybe make use of the left of the template.

No more scrolling off screen, the page fits for me now (though I had to force a page refresh, probably just my browser cache from earlier)

Twitter feed is fixed too, thanks.

And for my next gripe (I do like a moan ;))...

Can you make the menu expand/contract buttons clickies instead of rollovers? As it is, you open the Loading Screens menu, then as you move the mouse down if you go over any other selection, that expands instead of the one you're aiming for. e.g. I tried to open the Ocean screens menu, but as I passed over Imagine on the way it opened that one, the contracted it again. The menus all moving about on their own makes it very hard to make the selection you want. Mouseover looks fancy, but its not as functional as a click for this due to the change in menu stucture. To get away with mouseover you'd want the submenu to pull out to the side or something leaving the higher level menu intact.

Clickies don't quite work.

If you click the little arrow it works, but clicking the text flashes the screen then does nothing else. Try clicking 'Media' to see for yourself what I mean. Text and buttons should both be clicky (or the whole blue square that contains both of them so you can click anywhere in its space).
