Risk is my favourite, with Trivial Pursuit close second.

Always liked Monopoly, but I prefer another game to it, I don't know if it's popular internationally... the name's here is Crack, a game where your goal is to lose all your money

EDIT: ok, found it, its english name is "Go for Broke" :)

Mention of Block Wars has reminded me of a game I'd long forgotten, not related in any way other than a similar title:

Car Wars

Turn based car battling across a board that constantly changes as you drive, it has much in common with tabletop wargaming and is heavily influenced by Mad Max and its ilk.

The Planet of the Apes board game was brilliant. It was a bit like a cross between Pop Up Pirate and ludo.

Creep's Castle is one that I used to have, and have no idea why I ever thought getting rid of it would be a good idea:

Rock N Roll Maze is one that looked amazing on the adverts, but we never found out if it was, alas:

For me, it was and always will be Talisman from my youth. I also had a Judge Dredd one (not block wars) which was aces. A Star Trek space combat one and Doctor Who one based around the keys of time weren't quite as well played but still fun.

Another Talisman fan, cool. I've got that Dredd game too. And Block Mania/Mega Mania.

I loved Hero Quest as a teenager playing with my friends and used my own mashup of the Fighting Fantasy rules and Monster Manual to expand upon it.
Did all my own maps and the like too lol
Before that though I was a huge fan of Stratego and would happily play an Iphone App or somesuch if one existed now.
I look forward to when my little girl is old enough to play these games and not just stick the peices up her own nose.

Do children today just not have the patience to sit down, set everything up and play a game with rules? Or am I doing them a disservice?

I blame the parents :D

A few of my friends' children will quite happily play boardgames. It is pretty much how they've been brought up though, with limited videogaming/TV time.

We made our own cards for it too. Great times.
