I just can't get On with deadly premonition. I've tried several times now it's just such a hard game to like.

Hehe..yeah, like I say, it's not for everyone!Definitely a marmite game....

I reckon it helps if you're a fan of Twin Peaks, as it steals a lot from that...but then I guess you could hate it for that reason too!

Personally I love it! It's a wonderful, freakish, mess of a game! The weird characters are pretty funny, and the extra stuff you can do (shaving, fishing, playing darts, etc.) just add to the weirdness....and when you actually get to some of the later zombie killing levels, it can get properly creepy!

I'd definitely say it's a game you'll get more out of the more you put into it, but if it's not doing anything for you in the first few hours, then you might as well forget about it...

I'd say give it a rent or a borrow if you're not sure about it...and check out some Youtube videos or something...



Oh, and for the record.... I hate marmite!

I've got Michigan but have yet to play it. Mine's one of those PAL games with English language but the box and instructions are in another language. I think I bought it off retrojc for a very reasonable price but I've yet to see an English packaged copy or any copy at all for that matter. With the likes of Gamestation only selling manky FIFA's etc. on PS2 these days, it's unlikely that that will change.

Really want Rule of Rose but that one is another utter b1tch to track down at a reasonable price.

I've still got my copy and it is on my to play list.

Ah I see now; "Michigan: Report From Hell" correct ? Looks like it can be had for about £20 on ebay from places like Italy. I may get it eventually. I don't (as of today) even own a TV lol.

Having finally bought a 360 a couple of months ago, I've been cherry-picking titles to play.

Dead Space has been getting some attention recently (confined to late evenings as these long days are atmosphere killers!). I briefly played this at a friends when it first came out, and to be honest I thought it looked pretty dull, but it's one of those games that isn't great to watch, but played from the start, alone, it's a different matter.

I started playing it properly after having run through about 50% of Resident Evil 5 - seeing as Resident Evil 4 is one of my all time favourites, and even knowing that R5 wasn't well received, that game is a real disappointment.

It serves as a great contrast to Dead Space however, showing how amazing DS is. I've already bought DS2 (brilliantly only £10 at my local Sainsbury's, thus avoiding the usual eBay merry-go-round (Mint condition you say, seems we have a very different opinion of what that means...))

I've also recently returned to Call of Cthulhu, after playing to about 80% through nearly 18 months ago (real life got in the way of that). Still great, but seems to head downhill once you get to the reef. I did by some lovercraft short-story compendiums as a result of playing Cthulhu. Anyway, I must press on and complete that one.

After Deadspace I found I actually really like 3rd-person, over-the-shoulder games. Kinda reminds me of my early encounters with 1st-person racing games like Daytona, Sega Rally, Ridge Racer etc. Just felt so "right".

Also the Assault Rifle (or whatever it was called) in Deadspace, with a bunch of upgrade nodes, is a really, really satisfying weapon! (even if I would always be short of ammo on anything other than normal difficulty.)
Almost makes me feel like buying another '360.......almost......

I had the same problem with the game. Once you get onto the boat the game goes down hill, the last bits of the game forced you to play it like a FPS instead of relying more on stealth like earlier in the game which I enjoyed more.

Did you complete it? is it worth the slog (I'm getting tired of the stealth section around the prison...)?

In case anyone's interested, when I finally got a 360 I had to get rid of my old gaming CRT and get a full HD tv; it's not large (or expensive), but has all the necessary connectors, including composite. I already had a composite cable for the original xbox (modded for ntsc composite output), but it ghosted quite badly.

I then bought an official microsoft composite unit (short cable from the console into a 5 inch long box) - this is much, much better. The 1080i output on xbmc is really impressive, and the 480p compatible games (including Cthulhu) really look good. Shame the game isn't 16:9

The prison section is very tough, I remember taking a long time to do that. Very rewarding in the end though.

The boat bit can be be tough as well; it's definitely a game to test your mettle. I love it.

Cthulhu is rock hard in sections, sometimes unfairly so, but not always. Playing this alongside newer fare, there's definitely a feeling of dumbing down on modern titles - everything on the 360 feels too easy compared to older titles.

Resi 4 is much tougher than Resi 5. Partly this seems due to the regenerating health mechanic (Gears etc), and partly due to AI companions who take away the fear in even the most manic boss battles (Resi 5, on the platform in the storage facility with the enormous arachnid - yes, it was very very tough, but it was frustrating, not exciting)

It is worth sticking with yes. Its got a great/disturbing ending and the last level is pretty good if somewhat unforgiving in places. It's bastard hard but rewarding at the same time!

the gc version of resi 4 is cool, but it doesn't have the ps2 ada wong extra story separate ways. It's only short but quite interesting the way if visits different locations from the main game.

My Xbox1 doesn't look too great through RGB on my HD telly (it's passable but it looks so much better on the 360 thru HDMI), so I'd rather play this on 360 if there are no game-breaking glitches/bugs etc.

PS: Anyone with both a PS3 and a 360 who wants Dead Space 2 - get the PS3 version as it contains one of the greatest bonuses of recent times, the full version of Dead Space Extraction (ie. that Dead Space rail shooter that came out on Wii). Pretty poxy that the 360 version doesn't have it, really.

there are a lot of reported problems with cthuhlu dark corners of the earth on 360 - check out the page on wiki, although it does seem to be mainly graphical glitches rather than game-destroying ones. And yes, that was a sickener about the 360 version of DS but I have a wii so will eventually get it on that if I really want it i guess.
